Jacked from someone over on that "other" journal site thing. Because I'm a nerd and get way too easily obsessed with TV shows/book series involving wizards, I'm gonna do this for a few of my "favorite fandoms." Woo!
First up, Harry Potter. Obviously.
01. The first character I fell in love with - Probably Ron.
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now - Hermione! I hated her at first and now she's absolutely my favorite character.
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't - Snape. Hagrid. Marauders.
04. The character I love that everyone else hates - Aunt Petunia.
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer - Not sure...Krum maybe?
06. The character I would shag anytime - Ginny. Cho. Cedric (alive, obviously...)
07. The character I'd want to be like - Ron's hilarity and randomness with Hermione's brains.
08. The character I'd slap - Harry.
09. A pairing that I love - Ron and Hermione. Duh!
10. A pairing that I hate - Harry and Hermione.
And now, how about some Battlestar Galactica?
01. The first character I fell in love with - Six.
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now - I kinda really like Tigh. I never liked Tigh. Wtf?
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't - Possibly Ellen. I'm not sure how most people feel about her though.
04. The character I love that everyone else hates - Not sure...probably Gaeta?
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer - Chief Tyrol. Bag. of. fail.
06. The character I would shag anytime - Six. Starbuck.
07. The character I'd want to be like - President Laura fuckin' Roslin.
08. The character I'd slap - Lee. Then I'd feel bad because he's so pretty.
09. A pairing that I love - Six/Baltar/Di'Anna. Mrow!
10. A pairing that I hate - Tigh and Ellen kind of weird me out.
And now something that no one else probably even knows what it is! Skins!
01. The first character I fell in love with - Probably Emily.
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now - Katie. She's so deliciously bitchy.
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't - Cook.
04. The character I love that everyone else hates - Katie.
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer - Pandora. She used to be awesome, now she is a bag of fail. Bitch can dance though.
06. The character I would shag anytime - Emily. Katie. Cuz like, they're twins and stuff (NOT AT THE SAME TIME, that's just gross. Actually it's probably gross anyway. Whatever. They're both hot and totally shaggable.)
07. The character I'd want to be like - Naomi minus the sexual confusion.
08. The character I'd slap - Cook.
09. A pairing that I love - Emily and Naomi.
10. A pairing that I hate - Cook and Effy and Freddie and ME FALLING ASLEEP.
What else is there? Ah, how about Buffy?!?
01. The first character I fell in love with - Probably Buffy, but it might have been Willow.
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now - Xander, weirdly enough. He's ok in the comics!
03. The character everyone else loves that I don't - Spike. Seriously, what?
04. The character I love that everyone else hates - Harmony. Bitch cracks me up.
05. The character I used to love but don't any longer - Giles maybe? I'm not sure.
06. The character I would shag anytime - Satsu (comics.) Kennedy. ANGEL.
07. The character I'd want to be like - Buffy without the epic baggage.
08. The character I'd slap - Xander circa season six.
09. A pairing that I love - Buffy and Angel!
10. A pairing that I hate - Buffy and Reilly. Buffy and Spike. BUFFY AND ANYONE BUT ANGEL.
One of my favorite little TV shows, South of Nowhere, which airs on The N (yes, The N, as in Noggin's big brother. Don't judge me!) has been canceled after three seasons. The Internet imploded a few days ago when this rumor started swirling about and all the fans started going crazy, and today it was confirmed. The second half of the third season (which they're trying to pass off as a fourth season...) is still set to air in April, so at least it will be closed up nice and proper. I just hope that they haven't filmed the last episode yet, or at least were aware of the cancellation when they did film it, so that they don't have some wild and crazy cliffhanger and then be like "oh yeah, we were canceled, huh? sorry." :( As long as Spashley rides off into the sunset, then I'll at least be able to smile through my tears at the series finale.
This April also marks the beginning of the end for my most beloved TV show ever, Battlestar Galactica. That, at least, has been intended to end after the fourth season for a while now. While I'll obviously be sad to see it end, I'm happy that they're ending it when it's good, big and amazing, rather than let it sort of slowly die out and get crappy before they decide to pull the plug just to put it out of its misery.
This is one thing that I hate about TV though, is that constant insecurity about whether or not there will be another season after the current one, as well as the consistence in quality. How many shows are actually good all throughout its entire run and end on the creators' terms, rather than the network pulling the plug? Not very many, I'd wager. Most TV shows seem to have a sort of dip in quality at some point (or entire seasons dip, like season 5 of Xena and the dreaded season 3 of the L Word) and you never know if the next episode is going to be awesome or a steaming pile of crap. Damn you, TV, for playing with my emotions.
Speaking of BSG, the fourth season starts in 35 days, 22 hours, 31 minutes, so I think I'll have to go and watch the first three seasons to prepare. Mwahahaha!
warning: a couple little spoilery tidbits for the 4th season of Battlestar Galactica. And, obviously, spoilers for the first three seasons as well.
I stumbled upon this image today (why have I not seen it before now?!) and let out a hearty squee of joy. It was in Entertainment Weekly along with some info from Ron Moore, head honcho man of the show.
Here is the article I read that has the information I'm going on.
The fifth as-yet-unknown Cylon is not in the picture, so that rules out Roslin, Lee, Gaius, Starbuck, Helo and Adama. I have no other ideas as to who the fifth could be, so I won't even bother trying to rattle off names since it's so wide open. (though I am toying with the idea that Starbuck is a hybrid.)
I wonder if there's any significance to the goblet that's marking the spot where the fifth would be? Does that have anything to do with the show itself, or is that a sort of "shout out" to Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" (didn't that have a random goblet somewhere?)
At first I thought the woman on the left pointing with her arm out was Lucy Lawless's Number Three (who will also be back as far as I know) but evidently it's just another Six. She has almost the same hair as Gina did (the Six that killed Cain and then blew one of the ships to smithereens) and looks like she means business, so I wonder if she's going to be as dedicated to the Cylons as Gina was (as opposed to, say, Caprica Six and Sharon). Whatever it is, the more Sixes the better, :P
The bit with Anders and Starbuck is kinda sad, I guess. It kind of looks like Anders is trying to, you know, act more human and be more human, but Starbuck isn't all that into it anymore for whatever reason. Doesn't look like they'll be cooking up another hybrid baby...
Then there's Helo and Sharon, who are both looking at someone who is "definitely reacting." It looks like Sharon is looking right up at Tyrol with the knife, though he's looking down. Sharon also seems to be reaching towards Adama. They could also be looking at Six, but she's not really "reacting." I suppose they could also be looking way to the other end at Tigh, who seems to be glaring in their direction, though it's hard to tell with his eye patch. Tigh isn't really doing anything, actually.
As for the others...Roslin's burning something, maybe for something religious? Is she still religious? She was when she had the cancer but I don't think it was really brought up a whole lot after that...could be wrong though, it's been a while since I've watched the show. Lee's just looking all contemplative in a suit with a clipboard, which makes me wonder if he's going to get back into the swing of things with the military or stay a sort of pseudo lawyer guy. Gauis is looking up at Six, which isn't really anything surprising (hey, will there be any more threesomes this season?)
So!!! The only general prediction I have about season 4 is that hybrids will play a very important part. And I mean "very important" as in like, the key to the entire season, not just a fun plot point to play around with for a few episodes, since we already know it'll be at least something of an issue. I just think that it will be THE issue. There was quite a bit of hybrid stuff in Razor, which is supposed to give clues for season 4. Assuming Cally is human, then her and Tyrol's baby is a hybrid, and we also have Sharon and Helo's baby. So we have at least two hybrids running around (er, crawling around).
By the gods, I can't fracking wait until April 4th!! I'm going to have to get cable once I get home to Denver in May so I can watch it. Woo!
[Edited to replace the smaller, crappier and text-free image with a bigger and better one. I wrote up my little commentary before actually reading what was in the actual article itself so some things that I speculated about are explained within the text anyway. I'm just lazy and don't feel like editing this entire entry...]
Yay Merry Christmas and all that jazz, even though it's a day late....been really busy the past several days, today was literally my first "day off" since I got home to Denver on Friday. I had a great Christmas though, hope everyone else did too! We had the family over for dinner and presents on Christmas Eve, as usual, then went skiing/snowboarding on Christmas day up at Winter Park. It was fun! I posted some other shit and pictures up at my LJ, and I'll probably have pics up on my Facebook sometime in the next few days/weeks/whenever I feel like it.
No real big "omg!" gifts this year, though I am finding it exceedingly painful to be IN POSSESSION OF Super Mario Galaxy and to have my Wii completely inaccessible until the 13th (or some date like that) when I go back to Gunnison. But, I guess I've waited this long for the virtual Wii sex that is Mario Galaxy, so I can wait a smidge longer, eh?
Speaking of Gunnison, it was brought to my attention that the new Alien vs Predator movie (or something, I don't have time to pay attention to shitty movies) "takes place" in Gunnison. After an alien spaceship "crash-lands in the forest outside Gunnison, Colorado," shit goes down and the townspeople get killed left and right and, I believe, a nuke gets dropped on the town. However, what amuses me the most is the "forest" that has moss all over the trees and is all foggy (hi, Colorado is dry. Moss? What's that?) Also in the trailer they show a shot of them dropping a bomb on the town, complete with dramatic aerial view from the plane. Only problem is the town looks to be several times larger than it actually is. Also, heavy rain in Colorado, especially the mountains, isn't all that common. It's not totally uncommon though, so I can let that slide, but still, AVP people, you fail. That is all.
Anyway, for some completely crazy reason, I don't yet have the 5th Harry Potter DVD, so I need to remedy that and get it at Target tomorrow. Along with Battlestar Galactica: Razor. Because, hi, it's Battlestar Galactica. With lesbians? Total win. What the FUCK with season 4 being pushed back to April though. That, and South of Nowhere, are really the only casualties of the WGA strike that affect me. Fuck you, giant TV networks.
Film & TV writers are on strike, which means everything except reality TV could halt production. Do you support the strike? Are any of your favorite shows in jeopardy?
I honestly haven't been paying attention really, so I don't know why they're going on strike and what exactly it's going to affect.
All I will say, is THIS BETTER NOT FUCKING GET IN THE WAY OF BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. D: Though, season 4 was originally slated to air in January, and now word around the campfire is that it will air in April....so maybe this is why? Ugh. Though I'd rather them air it all in April rather than divide the season in half and air them a year apart. That would be oh-so cruel. I need my Starbuck and Number Six and Lee Adama NOW, DAMNIT.
Eeeevery morning during the week I wake up before the crack of dawn and go for a half-hour swim. This morning, I peeled myself out of bed after a strange dream in which I was at some sort of Air Force Academy-type place that looked strangely like Halo 3 online multiplayer. I also had an ADORABLE black lab puppy that I named Starbuck because even in my dreams I'm a total Battlestar Galactica nerd (though Starbuck is a cute name for a puppy, don't you think?) But anyway, I digress. Point is, I woke up, walked over to the pool only to find that, "there will be no swimming today, November 2nd. Sorry for the inconvenience." GODDAMN RIGHT YOU'RE SORRY. Ugh. There couldn't have like, been a note yesterday about this? :(
I kinda needed to get up early anyway because I have to go over my speech on the Mexican government from 1824 through 2006 (doesn't that sound interesting?) to do in my Spanish class at 10. I'm having major problems saying both "modernizacion" and "liberalizacion" for some reason. I sound like a total gringa! D:
Oh mah gawd! I just finished the third season of Battlestar Galactica. That was....oh man. The second half of the season finale was totally awesome. I kind of saw what was coming, once they started hearing the music I was like "Uh oh...wait...are-?...yep!....damn..." Just like that. But what did that have to do with the power failing, and then coming back on? Did Caprica Six know, and is that why she wanted to go to Galactica with Sharon and Hera? Or did she just have some weird feeling that drew her to Galactica? WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING TO HAPPEN NOW?!? So those are four of "The Five," and my guess is that the fifth is either Starbuck (the artwork, the reappearance, etc) or Roslin (the dream with Six, Sharon and Hera...though that could have been the drugs)...but I dunno....! Aaahhh!
I feel all emotional about it now...like...damn. I haven't gotten this "involved" in something since good ol' Harry P. Seriously, if you're at all interested in science fiction-y type things and haven't already checked it out, you totally should. It's such a good show.
*goes to download wallpapers of Number Six and to watch the Resistance webisodes*
I finally got around to finishing the second season of Battlestar Galactica (yeah yeah yeah, I'm way behind, screw you). I'm getting addicted to it again, though I think I'm going to try and space out the third season so I don't get overloaded with it (which happened when I watched all of the first season and most of the second season in the span of about a month last Christmas). I love that show though...it's done really well and I love most of the characters (how you doin', Number Six?) and it's totally nerdy and dorky and totally up my alley. The fact that Lucy Lawless is in it doesn't hurt, either. I'm excited because I actually get the Sci Fi channel, so I can watch the fourth season when it airs. I haven't watched a TV show actually on TV for a long, long time, so that will be most strange.
On Monday I had a test in geology, and today I had a test in my Spanish conversation class. In both classes, everyone was bitching and moaning about how "hard" the tests were, though I thought they were both pretty easy (we graded the Spanish tests in class afterwards and I got an 86, while most people got between 40 and 60.) I never really used to study at all, the first time I actually started studying regularly was over the summer, which mysteriously happened to be the highest point my GPA has ever been, high school or college. Strange how that studying thing actually works....
So yeah, basically I'm on a roll with the grades thing right now. Fuck socializing! I'm becoming a nerd in every sense of the word. If I'm not reading Halo novelizations (I picked up the Fall of Reach from the library today), watching Xena or playing Final Fantasy, I'm poring over my box of rocks or reading about bloodthirsty Spaniards. Woo! I rule.
I've also been totally getting down with some Radiohead lately. "Fake Plastic Trees" for the win.
Fellow fans of Battlestar Galactica will recognize this song as the piano song Starbuck put on the stereo when she and Helo went to her abandoned apartment on Caprica in the second episode of the second season. It's similar to another song I've heard elsewhere but I can't place it. Regardless, it's really pretty, so check it out. :)
Battlestar Galactica = win. It's nerdy and dorky but also thought-provoking and smart...me likes.
I evaluated the books I'll have in Spain, and realized I have...well...a lot.
His Dark Materials series (The Golden Compass, the Subtle Knife, the Amber Spyglass)
The Plains of Passage (Earth's Children #4)
The Shelters of Stone (Earth's Children #5)
Harry Potter (1-6)
Xenocide (third in Ender series by Orson Scott Card)
Children of the Mind (fourth and final in Ender series)
13 books! Unfortunately I will be sans BSG, though hopefully I can watch all the episodes up until what's currently available in the third season before I go.
And speaking of the Earth's Children series (which is probably one of my favorite series now), evidently there is a 6th one in the works. Yay! The 5th one was released in 2002 so hopefully it'll come out soonish (though evidently there was a 12 year gap between the 4th and 5th books, so I'm not going to hold my breath). But still, I'm excited, even though I haven't read the 4th and 5th books yet.
Anyway I head back in a little under two weeks. I'm kind of nervous, kind of anxious, and really excited...This semester's going to be interesting. It's going to be weird at first because so many people from last semester won't be there, and it'll feel kind of weird and empty without them.
