I was looking for videos with this song (which I like quite a bit) on YouTube and found this one. It is quite fascinating and moving.
"The video is edited from a silent film made by Natalie Toumbas (http://www.ntdimages.co.uk) called Silent Treatment - she asked two strangers to sit in a room for an entire hour - all they had to do was look at each other and not speak while being filmed. (They could not hear any music.)"
I'm feeling kind of....totally unmotivated and down and pessimistic about The Future. It's pointless to talk about the economy because everyone already knows it's shit so I'll spare the whining about that. Not the best time to graduate and get out into the world on my own.
My current obsession of the moment is Skins, a British teenage 'dramedy' (did I really just use that term? Please shoot me) that is like, ridiculously awesome and I am totally, unabashedly obsessed with it. I won't bore you with the details but it's totally crazy awesome. It also has some pretty awesome music that I have since acquired and am enjoying more than I probably should. Everything from Bon Iver to the Human League to Lily Allen to Santogold. I was also hanging out with my friend Christina the other day and she had the Moldy Peaches playing in her car, so I've been listening to them a bit too. A bit harder to get into but still good.
Anyway, as far as the family goes, things are swell. My sister is going to have a little girl, which is totally unsurprising since there since the last like 10 people born into our close family have been girls (all my cousins are girls, and the ones that have kids have girls). My grandpa is still crazy, my mom got a new job, the dog is starting to get lots of white fur in which is a) cute and b) sad because she's getting old. I still think of her as my little puppy though.
I was going to rant and rave about some other stuff that's been eating at me, but I'm not sure where I'd start or what I'd say. So, yeah.
14 years after playing and falling in love with Donkey Kong Country, I finally came across the entire soundtrack in all its fantastic old skool glory. I remember trying to record the ending credits theme on my Talkboy (remember those?!? So awesome) which, obviously, failed. BUT NOW I HAVE IT ALL. This music is so awesome...it takes me down memory lane and makes me all warm and gooey inside. I remember my parents bought DKC for my sister and me for Christmas, and I think the entire year of 1995 was spent playing it obsessively. I don't think I've clocked as much time into any other game I've played. Easily one of my absolute favorite games of all time, along with its sequel (though not so much the third one...DKC3 is a decent platformer but it lacks something that DKC and DKC2 had).
Anyway, here is the ending credits theme that I still love now as much as I did back in second grade when the game came out:
Audio: What's your favorite carol or holiday song?
As for traditional Christmas songs, my favorites are O Come, All Ye Faithful and Carol of the Bells. Also, I'm a huge fan of Auld Lang Syne though that's not exactly Christmas.
As for other Christmas songs, Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant is awesomely beautiful.
What's your musical horoscope? (Put your player on shuffle and write down the first 10 songs that come up.)
This will, most likely, be highly embarrassing. I'm already going to put my money on either a Disney song, an Nsync song, and/or a Harry Potter soundtrack song popping up.
Gorillaz - Kids With Guns
Rockapella - Stand By Me
Mudvayne - IMN
The Two Towers Soundtrack - Treebeard
Final Fantasy VII Piano Collection - Ahead on our Way
Shaggy - Luv Me, Luv Me (wtf?)
Rammstein - Hilf Mir
Harry and the Potters - The Firebolt (.......yeah.)
Fall Out Boy - Pretty In Punk (that's actually more embarrassing than the previous one)
Queen - We Will Rock You (NOW we're talkin')
So, anyway. I'm actually doing like, really well in school. I was doing well earlier in the semester, I'm just surprised I kept it up this long. w00t! Time to boost that pitiful 2.6 GPA up to something pretty (I may very well get a 4.0 this semester. If I do, I will shit my pants, since I've never gotten anything higher than a 3.4)
Audio: Share a song you just can't stand.
"All Star" by Smashmouth
"Fly" by Sugar Ray
"Bad Day" by Daniel Powter
Those are three songs that I. Cannot. Stand. AT ALL. They also happen to be songs that are annoyingly catchy and get stuck in my head WAY TOO EASILY. "All Star" and "Bad Day" are just terrible songs that unfortunately are/were "popular" so they get played way too often. "Fly" isn't that bad of a song, but in middle school our crazy gym teachers thought it was fun to torture innocent preteens by forcing us to line dance while listening to that song ON REPEAT every other day for an hour during gym. Sick bastards.
Anyway I think for these "Vox hunt" things I'm supposed to upload or link to or provide some sort of media that shows just how heinous these godforsaken songs actually are, but I'd really rather not expose myself to them this early in the day. Plus I wouldn't wish the pain upon anyone else.
IN OTHER NEWS. I just registered for classes for next semester. After entering the course numbers, and hitting "Submit," I got this message:
Congratulations! Your registration has processed successfully and without error.
Woah...wait...WHAT? NO ERRORS?!? That never happens!! Seriously, every time I've registered for classes since friggen freshman year of high school, something has gone horribly wrong. Not this time!

As Hermione says with a cute British accent in Order of the Phoenix, "It's sort of exciting, isn't it?!"
Today I watched not one, not two, but THREE Disney movies. Three of the best Disney movies, might I add. I started off with some Lion King, which I hadn't seen in a long, long time (though I still know most of the lines and the lyrics to all the songs...). Then I jumped right into Beauty and the Beast, and rounded it off with some Little Mermaid. Half of the reason I love Disney movies so much is that I used to watch them religiously when I was younger, so they stir up rather fond childhood memories. Plus, the MUSIC. omg. The Beauty and the Beast song (is that the actual title? Or is it "Tale as Old as Time" or something?) I think is my favorite, though I'm totally a fan of "Part of Your World" and "Kiss The Girl" as well. I never particularly cared for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" but when I watched the Lion King today that song totally got me. That whole damn movie totally got me. I seriously started crying from the "maaaaan savenya mamadee zeetavah" or whatever beginning part of "Circle of Life" on throughout the whole song. That movie is SO DEPRESSING. But so, so good.
I didn't watch it today (amazingly) but Aladdin has some pretty awesome music as well, mainly "A Whole New World." Is it just me, or is that song totally gay? Like, really gay. Just the basic concept of "a whole new world with you," plus lines like "I've come so far, I can't go back to where I used to be" just scream "sexual discovery," and then, of course, there's the line regarding a "magic carpet ride" that hardly needs any commentary. It's probably just me, but, well, there you go.
Unfortunately, now I have to actually do stuff (i.e. study for a test tomorrow) but I'm going to do it while listening to Disney's Greatest Hits vols 1 and 2. Hell yeah!
Step One to becoming an awesome photographer: use iPhoto. I'm probably being way lame and totally not "with it" but OH MY GOD the MAGIC that little "enhance" button can do! And if that doesn't do it how you want it, just tweak it a tad yourself and wa-LA, instant greatness. It's amazing how all my shots of the muggy Barcelona skyline are now beautiful and crisply blue. And the grass? Who ever knew it could be so...green? (I realize that I'm from Colorado and our version of "green grass" is probably what Floridian grass looks like...well...never, unless it gets poisoned and/or peed on by an ill dog).
Sorry. Got a little carried away with Step One, but as there is no Step Two, that doesn't matter.
As awesome as it is to be able to listen to all 9627 songs that are on my iMac on my MacBook through the happiness that is wireless Internet, I'm finding my music library to be rather frightening. Superfragilisticexpialidocious? Why the hell do I have so much Mary Poppins (I'll have you know I just typed "Poopins" accidentally and laughed out loud) music? And Disney music in general? I mean I know it's fun to sing along to A Whole New World, but....Disney's Greatest Hits vols. 1 and 2? At least I didn't pay for them...
In other news that is completely unrelated to anything interesting: My friend is knitting me a Gryffindor scarf. Hell yeah? I just hope it turns out to be something I'll actually wear, I don't want to get it and have it look like one of Hermione's scarves and be like "umm...yeahhh...thanks? >.> *trash can*"
Also: leaving Andes Mints and Junior Mints in your car for several hours on a near-hundred-degree day is NOT a good idea. I now have a mass of chocolate/mint in the shape of a Junior Mints box, and I haven't even checked the state of the Andes. Probably not gonna be pretty.
