Last night I went to see Nine Inch Nails for the third time (I saw them once in Barcelona in 2007 and then again here in Colorado at Red Rocks last September) at Fiddler's Green in Englewood, southeast of Denver. It was a pretty awesome show, as expected. I can't say if it was better or worse than the other concerts, all three have been quite different. The Barcelona concert was in a really tiny venue and was super loud and crazy. The concert at Red Rocks was very intensive on the visuals, with lots of screens up with shit being projected onto them in sync with the music, etc. They also played a lot from Year Zero and Ghosts at Red Rocks, so it was mostly new stuff.
The concert last night was mostly older stuff. There were only two songs from With Teeth and Year Zero (Hand That Feeds and Survivalism) and then they played Non-Entity from the NINJA Tour Sampler that was actually really fucking good live, I thought. Other than that it was all "older stuff" which I think I like more anyway. Quite a lot of Downward Spiral which I usually think is my favorite album (it changes a lot.) I was very excited and happy to get Heresy, Something I Can Never Have, Burn, Suck, Dead Souls, the Day the World Went Away, Hurt and of course one of my all time favorites, Reptile, which is ridiculously amazing to see live. Hurt was kind of a disapointment I guess. Maybe it's because I've already seen it twice before so the "omigawd Hurt" thing isn't really there anymore, I dunno. I didn't really get excited or get chills or anything. Still a great song to see live though, just not as good as the previous times.
Anyway then Jane's Addiction came on and we stayed for a few songs but then left before everyone else did to avoid the crowds. Dave Navarro did some crazy guitar solo that was neat, then the singer guy whose name I don't know started going off about how we need a "fashion revolution." It was enjoyable, the little bit we saw.
Anyway I found this setlist on the NIN forums and it seems to jive well with my memory and no one on the forum corrected it, so I'm going to assume it's right.

If they are indeed "waving goodbye" and won't be touring anymore, they sure went out with a bang. Excellent show (I must say that I usually hate going to concerts, but all the NIN concerts I've been to have been extremely enjoyable and I've always been sad when they end.)
Whew!
Saturday night we went down to Sitges (it's like a half hour train trip to the south along the coast) for Carnaval. It was crazy, the streets were PACKED with crazy drunken people dressed up in all manner of crazy costumes. Unfortunately, that was the night that I learned just how bad it is to drink on an empty stomach. I hadn't eaten since like 2 that afternoon, and had less than 5 drinks and was paying for it dearly on the side of the street by a tree. Haha. Oh well, I had a coffee and then later I got a hamburger and was a lot better. Despite that though it was a blast, though by the time I got home at like 7:30am I was so incredibly exhausted and just felt like poo.
Then I woke up 6 hours later and took a shower and got all pretty and went down to get some lunch at McDonald's, which I haven't done since I've been back (the McPollo is the best thing since sliced toast). It was de-lish. Then I went over to Ben's, played some Wii for a bit and then went to...Nine Inch Nails!! It was so, SO incredibly amazing, there are no words. During the first half I was kind of annoyed with all the assholes bumping into me (which is the main reason I usually don't like concerts) but then I got into it and then he played Hurt, which was by far one of the most amazing things I think I have ever seen. He started playing it and everyone was like "omgwtf!" and then everyone shut up and it was silent except for the music. I got a video of it, it's sweet. I didn't have enough money to buy a tour shirt so I think I'm gonna try and find one online and get it. Soooo amazing.
I haven't had much of a chance to come up here to the ISA office and use the Internet for any decent length of time, partially because of my schedule but mostly because I'm lazy. I also feel weird using my friend Ben's laptop at his apartment (where he has Wifi, which I've started calling "Weefee" like all the crazy Spaniards do) so I haven't really had a chance to do a nice big fatty update.
Anyway, you may or may not remember me bitching incessantly about waiting in line for hours upon hours to get my visa extended. Well, I finally...FINALLY got the card that that was all for (and right on cue, the ISA director who botched that whole thing up just came in to ask how I am...) and it's pretty and shiney and orangey and I -think- it's pretty much like a Spanish ID card, just that it's...not. Haha well anyway it makes me happy, I was disapointed last year that my student ID card from the Universitat de Barcelona was basically just a business card type thing with my name stamped sloppily on the back. But this is like a full blown ID card with my picture and finger print and it even has my reason for being in Barcelona (which is kinda creepy...)
So on the social side of life, things are cool. I pretty much hang out with Ben and Kinsy all the time, and then with Gaetano and Nelson a bit as well. Kinsy and I are cool again, we're "boys for life" once more so things are peachy. None of that other bullshit drama that was going on before, we're just friends and that's how it's gonna be. So anyway there's a bar that's like a block away from Kinsy (like 5 blocks from Ben and like 12 blocks from me, so I got fuxored) but they give us free food and Kinsy and I got like €40 worth of drinks there totally free when we went on her birthday so that was awesome. No creepy stories about creepy Barcelona men, yet. You just wait, I'll have a tale to spin by the fire in no time.
Ummm so we play my Wii at Ben's apartment, where his TV is jacked up and the AV channel is black and white. I tried to use my madd n3rd skillz and program other remotes for the TV, but failed. So that's sad. Super Mario World was released on the European Virtual Console (funny how usually gaming companies hate Europe but now they're giving us all this shit over here before North America).
I had paella last Sunday and lived through it (barely!) so this Sunday I'm planning Katie's Day Out. I realized I haven't been down to the water during the day at ALL since I've been here (I went down at night twice last semester). Which is just not cool, so I'll probably go down there and maybe over to Parc Cuitadella and then get myself some tasty vittles for lunch. I've been good about not going out and buying random foodstuffs I don't need, which is probably because Amanda's not here to be like "Let's go to [insert tasty and delicious place]!" so I'm not spending as much money. Though Ben and I did go and get some hot and sour soup and dumplings from a Chinese restaurant, which was totally crazy because I was stoned, the chairs were tiny so I was all clumsy getting into my seat, then they were playing some intense trance music and I was eating delicious food...it was a very interesting experience.
I keep seeing signs around advertising the Nine Inch Nails concert on February 18, THAT I'M GOING TO, and they get me so excited. That's going to be totally amazing. I have like two pictures on my camera so not much to share, but I can guarantee that I'll have oodles of pictures of that up afterwards. Mark my words! (Consider them marked...ok I've seen Pirates of the Caribbean way too many times.)
And now this entry is no longer a fatty, it's morbidly obese, so I shall bid ye adieu. Happy trails!
